No More Excuses

To be truly successful, Jack says we have to give up blaming and complaining and take total responsibility for our lives - for all of our results, both our successes and our failures. This means giving up all our excuses, our victim stories, all the reasons why we can't and why we haven't up until now.

You see, if we realise that WE have created our current conditions, then WE can re-create them - once we know how.

If something doesn't turn out as planned, you will ask yourself...'How did I create that?  What was I thinking? What were my beliefs?  What did I say or not say?  What did I do or not do to create that result?  How did I get the other person to act that way?  What do I need to do differently next time to get the result I want?

He mentions a very simple, but important formula to help understand what he means.

E + R = O        or in other words      Event + Response = Outcome

The basic idea is that every outcome you experience in life (be that success or failure, wealth or poverty, health or illness, intimacy or estrangement, joy or frustration) is the result of how you have responded to an earlier event or events in your life.

If you want to change your outcome, you need to change your response.  For example if I don't like the outcome of 'putting on weight', I need to change my response from 'eating junk food' to 'eating healthy food'.

Below are a couple of examples to make this a bit clearer

Event:  You are given a $500 bonus
Response:  You spend it on a weekend away with friends
Outcome:  You have no money left

Event:  You are given a $500 bonus
Response:  You buy $500 worth of products to sell on Amazon
Outcome:  You 10X your money

If you don't like what you are producing and experiencing in life, you have to change your responses.  You have control over only three things in life - the thoughts YOU think, the images YOU visualise and the actions YOU take.  So next time you find yourself with an outcome you don't like - ask yourself....'What could I have done differently to get a different outcome?'

Have you got an example to share?  Would love to hear about it.
